When Paintings Come Alive: What the "Colors" Mean

As I begin to paint I “feel” the subject of my painting and start to see the subject filled with color. Once this has begun I paint using these colors in harmonizing ways. Many clients ask what the “colors” mean that appear in their commissioned paintings. Here is a brief description of the colors and their significance to me:

• Yellows -  Intelligence, cleverness, curiosity.
• Oranges - Energy, enthusiasm for life.
• Pinks / Reds - Love, happiness, joy.
• Greens - Serenity, nurturing, comforting.
• Tourqouse / Blues - Loyalty, truth, wisdom.
• Purple / Violet - Devotion, passion, spirituality.
